Firefighter/EMT Michelle Smith Funeral - Delaware City, Delaware

On Monday, January 5, 2008, Engine 40-3 with the crew of President Willie Trowbridge, Deputy Chief Jerry Wales, Captain Buddy Jackson, and Firefighter Adam Pennington went to the Delaware City Fire Company to take part in the funeral service of fallen firefighter Michelle Smith. Photographer/Firefighter Dale Shaw was also in attendance. Firefighter Smith was severely injured while attending to a victim of a motorcycle accident on DuPont Highway in New Castle, Delaware on December 20, 2008. President Trowbridge, who was on scene as a career EMT with the Minquadale Fire Company, described it as being very horrific. Firefighter Smith succumbed to her injuries on December 22, 2008 after a courageous fight. The funeral was attended by departments from across the nation. The members of Station 40 showed professionalism and respect not only the members of Station 15, but also to the family and friends of firefighter Smith. This was greatly appreciated by President Trowbridge as he knew her through his daughter and former member Suzie Trowbridge.
