Delaware Bay Task Force has a busy Labor Day Weekend - A total of 5 people were rescued from the Delaware Bay
Wednesday, September 8, 2010

The Bowers Fire Company was dispatched for a total of four Water Rescues in three days over this past holiday weekend. On Sept. 3 @ 17:43, Station 40 was dispatched with an assist out of 57 (South Bowers) and 54 (Little Creek) as well as a helicopter from the USCG for a Water Craft in Distress. All persons were accounted for and the situation was placed under control by Captain Adam Warner with no patients receiving treatment. On Sept. 4 @ 15:47, Station 40 was dispatched to assist Station 89 (Memorial) with two Kayakers in distress. 40-Marine-1 responded with Captain Mike Noble in charge of the vessel. 40-Marine-1 was first on scene and retrieved the two Kayakers from the Delaware Bay. Just eight hours later, Sept. 4 @ 23:59, Station 40 was dispatched for a Water Rescue at the mouth of the Murderkill River. Initial reports indicated a Good Samaritan on the beach heard two individuals yelling for help. The initial response contained a rescue boat out of Station 40, 57, and 89 with a vessel from the USCG and an aviation unit from DSP. Captain Adam Warner assumed command and ordered 40-Marine-1 under the direction of Captain Mike Noble to begin an initial search in the area of the Murderkill Inlet Mile Marker. In the mean time 40-Marine-2, Marine 57, and Marine 89 all began a search south of the Inlet. 40-Marine-1 retrieved 3 subjects from the area of the Mile Marker and returned them to EMS care. Additional rescue boats were requested by command out of 54 and 82 (Lewes) as well as a Coast Guard Helicopter, once the rescued subjects confirmed there were two more individuals in the water. Due to the size of the incident the Kent County Mobile Command Post was also requested by Command. After approximately a two hour search the USCG Helicopter gained a visual of the two subjects and they were assisted ashore in the area of South Bowers Road. Command went under control and BLS from Station 49 transported two patients with no life threatening injuries. On Sept. 5 @ 16:23, Station 40 was dispatched to assist Station 89, along with 57 with a vessel taking on water. 40 Marine 1 responded under the direction of Captain Mike Noble. 40-Marine-1 remained in the area to assist fellow marine units. A special thanks goes out to Stations 57, 54, 49, 55, 89, 82 as well as Kent and Sussex County Paramedics, DSP Aviation Unit (Trooper 2 Heavy), the United States Coast Guard Marine and Aviation Units and Kent Center (Kent County Emergency Dispatch Center).
