BFC assists with Fire Prevention - Frederica Fire Company - Station 49
Thursday, October 7, 2010
On Thursday, October 7th, Bowers Fire Company joined Frederica Fire Company for a day of fire prevention. The event started with a visit from the 3rd graders from Lake Forest East Elementary. Later that afternoon the kindergarten classes arrived eager to learn about fire prevention. We set up four different stations for them to participate in. Richie Smith taught them the basics they need to know in case of a fire. They learned how to Stop, Drop, Cover, and Roll. They also learned to Get Out and Stay Out in case of a fire. Also to avoid smoke that accompanies a fire they learned to Get Low and Stay Low. Cody Hills showed them what you will find in an ambulance and how some of the equipment works. Past Chief Phil Pennington showed them all of the equipment that is stored on a fire truck and what we use it for. Past Chief Chuck Foraker showed them how to use the hose. They also took a tour of the fire house and got to show us what they had learned as they practiced their techniques for Stop, Drop, Cover, and Roll and Get Low and Stay Low. Other members that helped included Shirley Pennington (BFC), Steve White (FFC) and Alvin Schmick (FFC). It was a fun day for all involved and the kids enjoyed their fire prevention lesson.
