Station 40 assists Station 49 with a House Fire - 8 David Street, Frederica DE

On February 19, 2011, Station 40 was dispatched to assist Station 49 with a working house fire. Engine 40 responded with a crew of 6 under the command of Deputy Chief Willie Trowbridge. Upon arrival, the crew of Engine 40 was assigned to the third floor. Deputy Trowbridge assumed Division 3 from Deputy Chief Johnston of Station 49. He ordered firefighters to the attic area to make an aggressive attack on the fire in the attic area. Quint 40 responded with a crew of 6 under the command of Assistant Chief Jerry Wales. Quint 40 worked to the rear of the structure and placed the aerial to the roof for ventilation. Due to the location of the fire around the chimney, the ladder crew had to open the outside of the chimney area the attack the fire from the roof. We remained on scene and assisted with overhaul and assisted Station 49 members with placing their engine back in service. Station 40 units were in service for 2 hours and 31 minutes. Other companies on scene were Station 48, Station 49, Station 55, Kent County Medics, and DSFM.
