Station 40 responds to MVC with Entrapment - Bay Road and Mulberrie Point Road

On June 24, 2011 at 20:40 hours Station 40 was dispatched for an MVC at Bay Road and Mulberrie Point Road. Deputy Chief Willie Trowbridge went responding as command and was advised by Kent Center that they were upgrading the call as DSP was on scene and reported entrapment. Command 40 arrived and found a male subject trapped in the driver’s seat of a jeep wrangler that had collided with a 10 wheel dump truck. The patient was being attended to by an EMT from Prime Care Medical Transport. The driver of the dump truck started to complain of chest pain and was found lying on the ground next to his truck. Command advised A-40 to make access from Mulberrie Point Road and to have their combination tool ready to begin extrication. A-55 was directed to assist the driver of the dump truck. Command ordered the northbound lanes of Bay road shut down and divert traffic to Clapham Road. With road construction going on it was a difficult, but the Fire Police were able to accomplish the task. Rescue 40 arrived under the command of Capt. Adam Warner and was order to assist with extrication and lighting the scene. Engine 40 arrived under the command of Chief Engineer Mike Noble and was ordered to have his crew start clearing debris from the roadway. Extrication was complete in 6 minutes and the patient was transported to Kent General Hospital. Bay Road remained closed until all debris was cleared. All units cleared and were placed available at 22:04 hours.
