On May 24, 2008 we were at a Chicken BBQ that was a fundraiser for our department. We were dispatched to a working trailer fire in High Point Park. Kent Center advised us that this call was the result of a domestic dispute and to be cautious as the scene may not be safe. When we arrived on scene, Chief Pennington reported to Kent Center that there was heavy smoke and fire showing. Confirming that there was an individual trapped inside the residence, Captain Bryan Jackson Jr., then broke down the front door with assistance from Deputy Chief Wales, and Firefighter Osika (City of Wilm). After completing a knockdown, Captain Jackson went through the structure to find the individual that was trapped inside. The individual was located in the bathroom and with assistance from Deputy Chief Wales, Firefighter Osika, and Firefighter Foraker, they removed the victim from the house. Once outside they began CPR until the crew of A-49 and A-40 took over CPR efforts. The individual was then transported to KGH. The individual did not live through the tragic incident due to smoke inhalation. The firefighters gave it their all to save this individual from any further trauma, but depite their efforts, he could not be saved. Those firefighters involved were able to think fast, provide a quick knockdown, and find the person quickly, doing everything within their power while trying to save the life of an individual who was trapped inside. Hoping to save the life of another, these four individuals worked together. For their heroic efforts they were awarded heroic firefighters of the year at the September State Chiefs Meeting.
