Station 40 Responds to a Structure Fire - 1616 Skeeter Neck Road

On Friday, March 10th, Station 40 was dispatched to a working structure fire located at 1616 Skeeter Neck Road. Initial reports indicated the fire was a result of a fireplace explosion. Rescue Company 49 and Tanker Company 55 were due on initial dispatch. Command 40, under the authority of Captain Adam Warner went on scene with heavy fire showing. A long supply line was ordered by command as the house was up an approximately 800’ driveway. An aggressive initial attack by crews from 49-1 and Quint 40 returned negative results and an evacuation of the structure was ordered as the A side of the structure showed structural damage and the fire load was extremely heavy. Quint 40 under the supervision of Deputy Chief Willie Trowbridge was ordered to place a master stream in service. With the water supply in place utilizing Tanker 55 and Tanker 57, Quint 40 was able to knock down a majority of the fire and crews were ordered to make a secondary attack. Crews from 49, 54, and 55 assisted in pulling ceilings and suppressing the rest of the fire. Crews worked methodically to extinguish the rest of the structure. Units were on scene for aprox. 4 hours. Units responding: CV40, Q40, R40, T40, E40, A40, 49-1, 49-5, R49, 54-2, R55, 55-3, 55-4, 55-5, T55, T57, FM28. A special thanks to Station 54 for providing a cover up for Station 40 during the alarm.
